1. Tell us about you and your journey until now
My name’s Amy and I was raised in a Dutch and English household. I always knew I did not want to work in an office, but never truly understood how to approach it all. I had moved to Bali for my graduation assignment and planned on staying, but due to Covid and Bali closing its borders I got stuck in the Netherlands whilst visiting family. When someone told me about the EYE program I knew I had to apply and it is exactly the push I needed. Here I am now, working at Amarilla Coliving and Coworking in Tenerife.
2. How was the change from living in the Netherlands to living in Tenerife, Spain?
I’ve lived on an island before and it’s just different than living on the mainland. I’m easily influenced by the weather so coming from the cold Netherlands which still had Covid measurements in place to the lovely warm spring weather in Tenerife made a drastic change for me. Just being able to be outside feels amazing.
3. What kind of duties do you do at work on a daily basis?
I create visuals and written content for our social media channels and manage the marketing for Amarilla together with Marina. I monitor our social media channels and website to keep on improving and as a team we come together weekly to set new objectives. Our website has been a main project during my stay together with the opening of a new Coliving in Tenerife North.
Don’t overthink it and just do it. What do you have to lose? It sounds cliché but we do only live once, so why not take the chance. Explore the world and its different cultures and learn new skills and languages along the way.
4. What do you do in your free time in Tenerife?
I love to explore the beautiful and diverse Tenerife by going on hikes and excursions all over the island. Visiting the beach, going on boat trips and meeting up with friends and new people I have met along the way.
5. What have you gained from this experience so far?
I’m near the end of my program so I can honestly say I have learnt a lot. My time here in Tenerife involved a lot of self-reflection on a professional level and I’m grateful I did. I have a background in International Communication Management so I have learnt so much more about marketing from Marina who has years of experience. I have also grown in my own confidence when it comes to my skills and abilities.
